Larry Brooks Obituary

Larry Brooks, 82, passed away on February 4, 2024, at Hospice of Cincinnati - Blue Ash, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Larry was born to James and Eula Brooks on September 26, 1941. He grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he graduated from Deer Park High School.

Larry joined the U.S. Navy in the fall of 1959 as a Radioman RM2. He was stationed in GTMO, Cuba, during the Bay of Pigs Invasion and was on board the USS Essex during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was honorably discharged in 1963 and then attended the University of Cincinnati.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Joyce Wells-Brooks; two children and four grandchildren, Eric (Mary) Brooks with Maggie and James, and Marc (Erika) Brooks, with Jack and Alice; two siblings, Lonnie (Georgie) Brooks, and Beverly (William) McLaurin; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, James, Fred, and Doris.

Larry worked at Union Central Life, and held technology positions with EDS, Cincom Systems, and Comedia Global S&P,

Larry, affectionately called "Pop," loved spending time with his grandchildren, and always looked forward to all of their activities. Words cannot express how much they meant to him.

The family would like to give special thanks to Amber, Kelly, and Alex at Hospice of Blue Ash for their comfort, care, support, and compassion during this difficult time.

Larry's body was donated to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
