altWill was born September 24, 1941 in Kentucky, the first born to Dellie and Ruby E. (Haney) Richardson. In his first year, his father moved them to Sycamore Township. He attended Deer Park High School, graduating in1959. He also attended the University of Cincinnati from 1961 to 1962.

For a month after high school, he worked as a mattress packer at Geier Mattress Company. Then for a year, he worked at Fiberglass Evercoat. For nine months, he worked as a gas station attendant at John’s Sohio on Blue Ash. Then, during June 1961 as an animal care technician.

On December 31, 1962, Will joined the Cincinnati Police Division as a Police Cadet and was assigned to Central Station (the city jail in City Hall). He transferred to the Police Academy (314 Broadway) on January 14, 1963 for Recruit Class Number 41 and upon completion was promoted to Patrolman on April 22, 1963, issued Badge 696, and assigned to District 4 (7017 Vine Street). On July 5, 1964 Patrolman Richardson was rotated to District 6 (3295 Erie Avenue). During May 1967, he transferred to Traffic Bureau. He was promoted to Police Specialist on April 14, 1968, issued Badge PS-17, and reassigned to District 6. Eight months later Specialist Richardson transferred to Community Relations Section. He also served in the Tactical Unit. On March 11, 1973 Specialist Richardson transferred to the Criminal Investigation Section and within two months was assigned to the Intelligence Section. On October 1, 1989 he transferred to District 4 (by then at 4150 Reading Road). Specialist Richardson retired on January 11, 1990 with 27 years of service to his community and 27 letters of appreciation and/or commendation.

Specialist Richardson died in his sleep during the night of July 23 to 24, 2022 at the age of 80.

He is predeceased by his brothers, William Richardson and Charles Richardson.  Specialist Richardson is survived by his sons, Covington Police Officer and FOP President Mark Joseph Richardson and Gregory Allen Richardson, and siblings, Richard “Ricky” Richardson, Jeff Richardson, and Shirley Jentes.

Hello,

I received a call from Mark Richardson son of Willard Richardson, his father passed away July 24th 2022.

Celebration of life will be Sunday, August 14th from 4pm-7pm at Family’s at 104 North Main Street Walton, KY 41094.

No FOP services and no flowers in lieu of flowers please send to CPD Police Museum or American Heart Assoc.
